Education
Class groups at Meadows are small, with a maximum of eight pupils. Each class is supported by at least two members of staff, allowing learning to be carefully tailored and differentiated to meet individual needs.
Alongside the National Curriculum, our aim is to provide a broad and flexible programme that equips students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to achieve positive outcomes and progress to the next stage of education, employment or training.
Running alongside the core timetable, pupils benefit from a rich range of enrichment opportunities. These include music and drumming, fishing, outdoor adventure activities, outdoor learning and horticulture, vocational college placements, work experience, and independent travel training.
Our Primary Campus in Tunbridge Wells is home to a thriving Key Stage 2 department, offering a nurturing and well-structured environment that is distinct from our secondary site. A new Key Stage 1 department is opening on this site in 2025-26.
At Key Stage 3, pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum delivered through a structured day of six 45-minute lessons. Every morning begins with reading, supported by form tutors and coordinated with the English department, reinforcing literacy as the foundation for learning.
At Key Stage 4, pupils have the opportunity to study for GCSEs, Entry Level exams as well as Open Awards and AQA Unit Awards. We encourage and support every pupil to achieve their potential, and success in nationally accredited qualifications provides an important boost to confidence and future opportunities.
Meadows School’s Key Stage 5 department is based in a dedicated facility on the secondary campus, just a short walk from the main school building. It offers students aged 16–19 (Years 12, 13 and 14) a supportive environment with an adult-focused approach to learning and personal development. Each student follows a bespoke, individualised study programme designed around their aspirations and future goals, enabling progression and helping them to achieve their full potential.
The Key Stage 5 curriculum offer includes English, Maths, and a wide range of vocational subjects (BTEC Levels 1–3). Students are supported in learning to drive, with guidance towards gaining their licence as part of preparing for adult independence. Learners also have access to courses delivered in partnership with local colleges, employability opportunities, and targeted support to develop independence and essential life skills.
National Curriculum
All students have access to an entitlement curriculum, including the National Curriculum, within a framework that supports individual educational needs. The specific needs of each student are recognised within a Personal Education Plan and Care Plan. They are reviewed at six monthly meetings by education and care staff in partnership with families and students. The SENCo develops and supports individual catch-up programmes where appropriate.
'Pupils say that since arriving at Meadows School their lives have improved a lot. Parents and carers are supportive of this.' (Ofsted 2022)
