School Community

Our school community is much more than pupils and teachers – it brings together governors, non-teaching staff, parents, carers and former pupils. United by a shared commitment to Meadows, we work collectively to create a learning environment that is friendly, supportive and aspirational, where every young person is encouraged to thrive.

Pupils

The pupils are at the heart of our school community.  At Meadows School we recognise the unique worth of each of the pupils and support them on their learning journey to develop their talents to the full.

"Pupils are positive about the school. Several said that the best thing about the school is that staff help them to be the best versions of themselves" (Ofsted 2024)

Teaching staff

A team of experienced teachers is responsible for subject areas and individual tutor groups. Regular staff meetings ensure all teachers are aware of all pupils and their differing needs.

Learning support assistants aid the teachers in the classroom, ensuring appropriate ratios of staff: pupils and supporting individual learning needs.

Non-teaching staff

There are a number of non-teaching staff working at the school. The Pastoral team help provide specialist pastoral support for pupils.

Other non-teaching roles include the maintenance team,  administrative and domestic teams.

Governors

Meadows School’s Governing Body is made up of community governors, staff representatives and parents/carers, who work together to provide oversight and strategic direction for the school. For more information about our governors, please click here.

The Governing Body is responsible for monitoring and reviewing the broad policies, plans and procedures that shape the school’s work. Governors do not take part in the day-to-day management of the school, which remains the responsibility of the leadership team.

Parents/Carers

We work in close partnership with parents and carers, keeping them regularly informed about the activities, achievements and events that take place at Meadows School.

Parents and carers are encouraged to play an active role in school life, with opportunities to take part in events and regular progress reviews that celebrate success and support each child’s development.

Please find any parent/carer information here

Barnardo's

Meadows School is run by Barnardo's, the national children's charity. Our founder, Thomas Barnardo, believed that with the right help, children can change their lives and achieve their potential. He promised to support those children in need of help - regardless of their circumstances, gender, race, disability or behaviour. Barnardo's today continues to honour that promise. School-leavers

When pupils leave Meadows, many choose to return and share their progress with us – a reflection of the strong and lasting relationships built during their time here. Our staff also keep in touch with former pupils, offering guidance and career information where helpful, and celebrating their achievements beyond school. You can read some of our student and parent testimonials here.

'I have enjoyed my time at Meadows School.   Staff have been kind, helpful and persevered with me and provided a timetable to suit my learning needs and style in a safe environment.  Thanks to the support, I have gained my GCSE's and I am now a more confident person.'
