Students Gain Hands-On Insight at Fernham Homes Building Site

On Wednesday, 8th October, a group of students visited the Fernham Homes building site, where 160 new houses are currently under construction. The visit gave them a real-life glimpse into the world of construction.

Upon arrival, students were welcomed into the meeting room and treated as contractors for the day, giving them a taste of the professional environment. They began with a Health and Safety induction, watching a short video and completing an induction form, just like industry professionals.

Next, the students enjoyed a guided tour of the site, observing the various stages of the building process and learning about the wide range of roles involved at each stage. The visit concluded with an interactive activity, where students identified and listed the different job roles required on a construction site, reinforcing their understanding of the teamwork and skills needed in the industry.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Fernham Homes for hosting the visit and providing such an invaluable opportunity for our students to explore potential careers and gain practical insight into construction, health and safety, and teamwork in a real-world setting.
