I have worked at Meadows School for almost six years in various roles, and during that time, I have witnessed first-hand the incredible progress our students make throughout their journey with us. As a team, we understand that student progress isn't measured solely by academic achievement, it also includes the personal growth each individual develops over time. I’m proud to be part of such a supportive school community that is dedicated to ensuring our students leave us happy, confident, and well-prepared for the next chapter of their lives.
Here are a few examples of the positive impact that Meadows School has had on our students as they transition through the key stages:
-
Students who were initially afraid to step out of their comfort zones, growing into young adults who confidently perform their own original music on stage in front of huge crowds.
-
Students who arrived at Meadows with little faith in education, leaving with nothing but positive feedback about their experience and gaining the qualifications needed to pursue their chosen careers.
-
Students who previously struggled in mainstream education, returning to it just a few years later, or accessing higher education, after developing strategies to regulate and manage their emotions during their time with us.
The school’s commitment to understanding the students we work with begins at the beginning of their journey, when we receive the young person’s referral consultation pack from the Local Authority. When this first arrives, the student is just a name on paper until we begin to understand who they are. Our comprehensive referral process is crucial—it helps us build a clearer picture of the young person, their interests, their challenges, and whether Meadows School is the appropriate setting for them. It enables us to see beyond the contents of the consultation pack and truly consider the individual.
It is deeply rewarding to witness students' journeys, from who they are when they first arrive, to who they become as they grow personally and academically, and eventually leave as confident young adults with a plan for their future. I am proud to be part of such a fantastic team and hope to continue contributing to the life-changing work we do at Meadows School for many years to come.

The most impactful thing Meadows ever did was the support from all the staff.
For me, the support meant you didn't have to just rely on yourself. That's what gave me a chance.

Max joined Meadows back in 2018 as a year 4 student at the Primary School site. We had looked at other special needs schools before visiting Meadows and none of them came close for us as a family. Meadows focuses on enabling students to reach their full potential whilst teaching them relevant life skills and offering them the ability to achieve formal qualifications. In our experience this wasn't the case with the other schools we visited.
Right from day one we felt welcomed, understood and supported and this has continued throughout Max's school journey. Max has had so many amazing opportunities during his time at Meadows - school trips, recording studio sessions, Challenger Troop and the opportunity to play at The Forum to name a few!
Max is now in year 10, preparing to take GCSE's, growing in confidence and maturity and we couldn't be prouder of him. The whole staff team at Meadows are truly amazing and they have all played a huge part in Max's growth and achievements. We can't thank them all enough for their genuine care, kindness, compassion, humour and continued support.
A leaving speech delivered by a parent at Prize Giving 2024
Hi,
Some of you will recognise me as Korben’s mum. Korben joined in September 2014, as the youngest and smallest child in the school, and he leaves now as one of the oldest. Over his time, he has managed to complete 6 GCSEs of 5 and above, and a level 3 in Mechanics.
I did always think Korben would be stood here next to me today however in true testament to the school and everything it has done for him; he is actually crewing a 14-metre classic sailing yacht in a race from Weymouth to Jersey right now.
The fact he is able to do this is down to the wonderful support and care provided to him by all of you stood here today: the cleaners he used to follow around chatting to for hours, the maintenance team (who have been gifted his help, sometimes regardless of whether they actually wanted it or not). The reception team, pastoral staff, therapeutic teams and Senco, all who have helped me fight to keep his place here, and the teachers and TA’s who have supported him throughout his educational experience, the SLT and Barnardo’s senior staff who have provided the safe and nurturing environment for him, our wonderful governors who have supported him and the rest of the pupils who were affected when the local college tried to close the places for Meadows students.
And of course, all of you, his friends. All of you have been a part of his success and made him the person I am so very proud of today. The educational curriculum has taught him knowledge and given him a great foundation, and as it was referred to recently, “the other curriculum”, the one of life lessons and tough choices, has taught him resilience, determination and grit as well as the art of blagging the odd free entry ticket along the way and mastering the art of humour.
All of this whilst being supported with kindness and care.
All of you have been a part of TEAM KORBEN and for that I thank you all.

We visited many special schools before we chose Meadows for our son. On our visit to Meadows and meeting Camilla, we were impressed by the school’s focus on helping children realise their potential and achieve tangible results. All too often children with special educational needs can be sidelined as though they have little to contribute. At Meadows, children have the opportunity to discover themselves, their talents and abilities and explore and develop in areas where they show potential and possibility.
We like the fact that children can, at the appropriate time in their education, move up to the senior school and therefore continue their education in an environment with which they have become familiar and with staff they already know.
Meadows supports children to work towards both academic and vocational qualifications, whichever best fits their profile and abilities and which we believe is critical for leading an independent life.
Leaving statement from a 6th form student
I feel that Meadows has been my second home for the last eleven years. I have felt safe, heard and understood. Meadows' staff have always guided me to take new opportunities to develop my skills and abilities, including helping me get into college. I have just achieved Level 3 Car Mechanics and I will always be grateful to Meadows.

I have enjoyed my time at Meadows School. The staff have been kind, helpful and persevered with me and provided a timetable to suit my learning needs and style in a safe environment. Thanks to the support, I have gained my GCSE's, and I am now a more confident person.
