Sparking Interest with Peter Costello

Careers Week

During Careers Week at Meadows School, students enjoyed a hands-on session with Peter Costello from Tunbridge Wells Repair Café, exploring the ethical and financial benefits of repairing broken household items rather than replacing them.

Peter brought along a radio he had mendedmagnet-powered electrics, and a tool which measured resistance, demonstrating how readings differed between staff and students. This practical activity sparked curiosity and showed the science behind everyday objects in a fun, interactive way.

He also highlighted the value of volunteering for community initiatives, explaining how giving time to projects like the Repair Café not only helps others but builds skills, confidence, and connections.

The session left students inspired to think about sustainability, practical skills, and community contribution. Thank you, Peter, for sharing your expertise, showing the power of repair, and encouraging students to make a positive impact in their communities!
