Building Careers with Fernham Homes

Careers Week

As part of Careers Week at Meadows School, students took part in an engaging and hands-on session with Sean Ellis, Ben Stone, and Kay Martin from Fernham Homes, exploring the world of construction and the skills needed to succeed in the industry.

The session covered routes into construction, including apprenticeships, traineeships, and college pathways. Students learned about the importance of personal skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and forming positive relationships, as well as the range of salaries across different construction roles. The speakers emphasised the critical role of health and safety on-site, ensuring every project is completed safely.

Students also took part in an interactive activity ordering the use of materials in a house build, putting their new knowledge into practice. At the end of the session, pupils shook hands with the speakers to show their gratitude, highlighting the value of professional etiquette alongside technical skills.

It was an informative and interactive session, giving students valuable insights into construction careers. Thank you, Sean, Ben, and Kay, for sharing your expertise and helping our students lay the foundations for their futures!
