“Fired Up” for Careers: Sarah Murphy Inspires Students

Careers Week

As part of Careers Week at Meadows School, students enjoyed an exciting and informative session with Sarah Murphy from the Fire Service, who shared the wide-ranging and vital work of firefighters.

Murphy spoke about fire, animal, and inland water rescues, responding to car accidents, and the crucial role of smoke alarms in keeping communities safe. She also explained the variety of jobs and salaries in the service and how courses like the Public Service course can provide a pathway into this rewarding career.

The highlight for students was getting the chance to try on fire service uniforms, giving them a hands-on sense of what it’s like to be a firefighter. Murphy also shared insights into search and rescue dogs, showing how teamwork and specialised skills come together in real emergencies.

It was an inspiring session full of energy and practical insight. Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your experiences and sparking enthusiasm for public service among our students!
