Welcome to our Key Stage Two (KS2) provision in the primary campus of Meadows School in Tunbridge Wells. Our KS2 site, close to Dunorlan Park, is light and airy, with a welcoming and nurturing feel to it. Some of our parents/carers have the following to say;

We have 3 classrooms:

Green,                                         Blue,                                             and Yellow. 

           

Each KS2 class has up to 6 pupils, with a teacher and learning support assistant.

We offer lunchtime taster sessions for new pupils, so they have the opportunity to meet classmates and experience our provision. It helps them understand the primary campus and meet staff also. We are flexible when placing new pupils in a class and consider SEN diagnoses, academic ability and friendships. We work closely with parents and carers and these relationships are integral to the development of the KS2 provision.

Our KS2 follows the primary National Curriculum, however as a non-maintained special school we have the flexibility to adapt the timetable to meet the needs and interests of our pupils, and so that we can also support their social skill and independence development.  As an example, we have weekly timetabled sessions of 'community outreach', environmental science, communication and interaction and 'Growth Mindset'.

As well as being child-centred and interactive, our primary curriculum offers enrichment activities each afternoon, promoting independence and opportunity for students to develop life skills. These activities might include travelling on public transport, real life shopping and visiting key services they might access as adults. We also have a link farm where pupils can develop skills off-site.

            

We support our pupils to develop their use and knowledge of technology. Each pupil has their own laptop, used in class to support their work and at home to further support their learning. Pupils are also offered the options of interactive or paper-based learning. Remote education can be provided via Microsoft Teams with support for pupils, parents and carers access.

Pupils move between classrooms during the day to work in a variety of settings with a range of staff members. Each class has a visual timetable, allowing students to prepare for the different stages of the day. Pupils are also supported by the school's Well-being Services to meet their needs.

We offer a well-constructed transition package for pupils continuing their education at the main (secondary) site which engages and enthuses pupils about their move to secondary education. They begin with small taster sessions which gradually increase, enabling them to become familiar with the staff, site, buildings and subject areas.
